At YF-WIND, we separate physical LED density from the number of independently controlled positions. A strip can look densely populated while offering a different control grouping from another assembly. Buyers comparing decorative lighting proposals should ask for both numbers and the mapping between them.
Why counting LED packages is not enough
Physical density describes how many visible packages occupy a stated length. Logical resolution describes the positions that the controller can address in the actual implementation. A purchasing brief should state whether every visible point must change independently. Do not infer that requirement from a product photograph or the broad RGBIC label.
| Requirement | What to compare | Acceptance evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Physical spacing | Package pitch and installed length | Drawing with units |
| Control grouping | Emitters associated with each logical address | One-point movement test |
| Appearance | Viewing distance and diffuser | Prototype observation |
| Order quantity | Components versus strip length | Quotation line with unit |
A counter-edge animation example
For a fictional counter with twelve visible points, a designer might require a highlight to move one point at a time. If a proposed assembly groups several emitters per address, the apparent step size changes. Specify the visible sequence, ask engineering to map it to the assembly and inspect a short prototype at the intended viewing distance.
Project worksheet example
Example: 12 visible emitters
Proposal A: mapping must be documented
Proposal B: mapping must be documented
Acceptance: reproduce the requested visible step sequence
Do not infer grouping from LED count alone. How to compare samples
Use the same animation and viewing position for both samples. Record the part reference, assembly identity, diffuser and controller configuration. A smoother-looking result may come from optics rather than higher logical resolution. Keep those observations separate so purchasing knows which requirement each proposal meets.
Prepare a specific YF-WIND enquiry
Send the item type, full component or assembly reference if selected, quantity and unit, destination country and target delivery requirement. Include the relevant customer-owned drawing and describe which questions still need engineering input. Distinguish an evaluation candidate from an approved production item; identify whether alternatives may be proposed for review.
